About Builderdex

Builderdex Editorial

Builderdex is an independent comparison publication for people choosing an AI app builder. We rank builders for hundreds of specific use-cases so that when you are picking a tool for a real project you can read an honest, side-by-side comparison instead of a marketing page. Our only job is to help readers make a good decision, and the rankings reflect editorial judgment rather than paid placements.

The category moves fast. New builders launch every quarter, prices change, and feature sets shift as vendors race to support automation, deployment and team workflows. We exist to keep up with that change in one place, with a consistent method, so you do not have to re-test five tools every time you start a project.

How we pick the builders

A builder earns a place in a comparison when it is one a reader would realistically shortlist for that use-case. In practice that means the well-known general-purpose builders most people already know, plus any niche tool that is genuinely strong for the topic at hand. We add a builder when it becomes relevant and remove one when it is discontinued or no longer competitive. Vendors cannot buy their way onto a list, and being included is never conditional on a commercial relationship.

How we weight the criteria

Every comparison scores each builder against the same public set of criteria: price, including the real cost of running more than one project; deploy target, meaning where your app actually runs and whether you control it; code ownership; automation through a documented API and Model Context Protocol surface; whitelabel and multi-tenant support; export; and support quality. The criteria are constant, but their weighting is not. We weight by what the use-case actually needs. A marketing-agency comparison leans on whitelabel and client management, while a prototyping comparison leans on scaffold speed and database integration. We state the weighting in each article so you can disagree with it and still read the underlying scores.

How often we refresh

Comparisons are reviewed and refreshed monthly, and we re-test ahead of schedule whenever a builder ships a material change to pricing, deployment, or its data model. Each article carries the date it was last updated so you always know how current the information is. When a builder genuinely leads on the criteria that matter for a use-case, it ranks first, and when a different builder is the better fit, the recommendation changes accordingly.

Editorial independence

Builderdex is reader-first. Comparisons reflect our own testing and judgment, not vendor influence, and we do not accept payment for rankings or coverage. If we get something wrong, we want to fix it quickly.
